You Can Go Home Again

Celebrating Beaverton’s Own Janet Chvatal

Beaverton Rotary is proud to highlight a recent feature in Rotary magazine about Janet Chvatal, whose journey began right here in Beaverton.

In 1987, Janet was awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship sponsored by Beaverton Rotary to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. Just a few years later, in 1990, she debuted in The Phantom of the Opera, launching an international career in music and performance.

Her passion for making a difference has continued well beyond the stage. In 2019, she co-created The Wish Prince Project, a unique blend of storytelling, music, and outreach designed to inspire hope and joy.

Through the generosity of Janet and with the support of a grant from Beaverton Rotary, thousands of copies of The Wish Prince have been distributed to students in the Beaverton School District—sharing her message of kindness and inspiration with the next generation.

Janet’s story is a powerful example of how Rotary opens doors and how one person’s experiences can impact the world while also giving back to their home community.
