Beaverton Together – Diversity Basketball Tournament

The Rotary Club of Beaverton has supported Beaverton Together ever since its formation in 1990. The mission of Beaverton Together is to reduce youth substance abuse and to educate and raise awareness of alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues in Beaverton and Washington County.  Each year, our Club volunteers as scorekeepers, timekeepers and the presence of caring adults for a co-ed, multicultural basketball tournament with teams from seven Beaverton middle schools.

The tournament involves more than 75 youth and is designed especially for non-traditional athletes. Practices are held for eight weeks prior to the tournament. During breaks in the play, each team takes part along with parents in interactive drug and alcohol education presented by Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Addictions Educator for Washington County.

In addition to the tournament, our Club has supported musical instruments for Aloha High School and the 8th grade “Fly-Up” at Aloha HS, both sponsored by Beaverton Together.
