For Rotary Clubs

The Wish Prince Project / Teachers / Students and Parents / Rotary Clubs / Donors / About the Author

The Wish Prince Project is a project of the Rotary Club of Beaverton. It brings The Wish Prince bilingual (Spanish/English) book to third grade students within the Beaverton School District. The book is a charity project in service to children and building literacy in partnership with the Beaverton Rotary Foundation. School assemblies are coordinated with school leaders to distribute the books for free.

The book’s purpose is to help students learn to set goals by following five simple daily steps to develop the mindset and skills to achieve their goals and live their dreams. Secondary objectives are to support reading and to aid the transition from Spanish to English.

At this time, we are starting to reach out to District 5100 Rotary Clubs that have expressed an interest in our Project. If your club is interested, please contact Maureen Wheeler, 503-888-3717 or Doug Taylor, 503-421-5329.

The Rotary Club of Beaverton is also proud to sponsor several other education and literacy projects and programs (Books for Kids, First Books, Dictionaries and College & Vocational Scholarships) that have endured for more than 15 years. We believe that further education and the ability to read changes lives, truly making dreams come true!

About the Project

The Wish Prince is a project of the Rotary Club of Beaverton. It brings The Wish Prince bilingual (Spanish/English) book to third grade students within the Beaverton School District. The book is artfully designed in bilingual form and features colorful graphics and English and Spanish rhyming text. School assemblies are coordinated with school leaders to distribute the books for free. This is a charity project in service to children and building literacy in partnership with the Beaverton Rotary Foundation.

The book’s purpose is to help students learn to set goals by following five simple daily steps to develop the mindset and skills to achieve their goals and live their dreams. Secondary objectives are to support reading and to aid the transition from Spanish to English.

Janet Chvatal is the principal creative contributor to the Wish Prince Project. Janet received her elementary and secondary education in the Beaverton School District, trained in opera at Boston University College of Fine Arts, and studied opera at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna through winning a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship. Janet has participated in many charitable activities in the Beaverton area and with the Rotary Club of Beaverton.

The Wish Prince Project carries on from prior Wish Prince activities in the Beaverton School District and in Germany. The Wish Prince was first written in German and has been presented to 4,000 students in Germany. In 2019, an English language edition of The Wish Prince was produced, and with the aid of members of the Rotary Club of Beaverton, more than 500 copies have been given out to students in Beaverton schools. This effort was supported by the late Howard Hedinger, a Portland philanthropist.

The artful presentation is designed to capture the students’ interest, engage parents and families to become involved in helping their child remember and use five simple daily steps described in the book. In addition, there will be supplemental materials available to teachers, parents and others on The Wish Prince website including free drawing downloads, songs, and additional methods and ideas to accompany the tools offered in the book.

Meals on Wheels

Beaverton Rotary volunteers deliver nutritious hot and cold meals to homebound seniors through the local Meals on Wheels Program. Every Tuesday morning, rotating Beaverton Rotary driver/ navigator teams set out to a dozen or more approved residents who are physically limited or live in isolation. For some of these seniors, it may be their only meal of the day and contact with a caring person.

Due to COVID-19, we are now meeting virtually on a Zoom call.  Contact us for more information.

DEI – Racial Justice

As part of a 5100 Rotary District wide initiative, members of the Rotary Club of Beaverton are actively involved in the Racial Justice Network. Together with members from other clubs, community members, and civic leaders we are working to provide education and networking, and spawn independent action groups that work on systemic changes that will bring about more Racial Justice in our communities.
